9 tips & tricks to prevent ageing around the eye area.
The skin around the eyes is thin and delicate, making it susceptible to wrinkles, dark circles, and other signs of ageing. Lifestyle can also play a big part in ageing our eye area, for example, the more time spent indoors with our eyes glued to our screens the more we tend to notice signs of fatigue, such as; tired eyes, dark circles, under eye bags and puffiness.
While there may be a wide range of causes for these concerns, here are our top 10 tips and tricks to assist in the prevention of ageing around your eyes:
-
Invest in a good eye product: An eye serum designed for the delicate eye area will help reduce the appearance of ageing, try our supercharged eyelift for fine lines and wrinkles here; Hexapeptide5 Anti-Wrinkle Eye Serum.
-
Keep hydrated: Keeping your skin hydrated on the inside and out may mean avoiding excess caffeine intake and long periods in the sun, as well as increasing your water consumption to keep your skin (especially around the eye area) happy, healthy, and hydrated.
- Improve your sleep quality: It might be hard to get ‘more’ sleep but getting a good quality of sleep is better than nothing. Try minimising screen time about an hour before bed, or even incorporate 5 mins of meditation into your night time routine to help you wind down and have a deeper, more restful sleep.
-
Protect your eyes from screens: You may use a computer all day at work, and be on your phone in your spare time, these can have a fatiguing effect on our eyes. Making a conscious effort to protect your eyes with regular screen breaks, using blue light glasses, and minimising screen time before bed are all helpful when trying to reduce the appearance of premature fine lines around the eye area.
-
Be aware of any allergies: Whether it be the change of season, or allergies to a friend's pet - unfortunately our eyes tend to be the first ones to suffer. Taking precautions may help reduce the need for rubbing the eye area which over time can cause premature ageing.
-
Use a silk pillowcase: The soft surface of a silk pillowcase allows the skin to retain its elasticity overnight. This inhibition of dryness and irritation ultimately results in the prevention of the signs of ageing.
-
Avoid makeup wipes: Makeup wipes can sometimes be packed full of alcohol which can cause irritation around the delicate eye area, as well as friction from rubbing your eyes with said wipes. The combination of the two can cause premature ageing over time.
-
Don’t apply heavy creams: The eye area is the thinnest part of the skin on our face, so it needs to be treated accordingly - eye creams and eye serums are made specifically for the eye area - the ingredients are formulated to penetrate the delicate skin. Thicker creams may be too heavy and can’t be absorbed, which may cause sagging and other signs of ageing.
- Don’t rub your eyes: Whether it’s with a face washer, a towel, or even just your hands - rubbing your eyes can cause irritation, which may increase the appearance of fine lines, redness, or puffiness around your delicate eye area.
